I was born in Beijing (China). I lived with my grandparents for awhile, since my parents worked in Hong Kong. My mother, after having coffee with a psychiatrist friend, began to worry that if she didn't take care of me herself, I would become insecurely attached and run away from all of my future relationships, especially with people of the opposite gender. Thus, at two, I was moved to Hong Kong so I could live with my parents. A year later, for some unknown reason, I was once again moved back to Beijing to attend kindergarten.
At five, I was flown to Toronto with my mom to start what we call "immigration jail" in Canada (meaning we can't leave the country for long during the 3 years or however long it takes to get our citizenship). A year later, the harsh Ontario weather beat us westwards, and we ended up on the coast of a different ocean, in the city of Vancouver. Of course we couldn't stay in the big city centre for long, so a year later we migrated to Coquitlam. This was where most things happened--I lost my first tooth here, had my first crush, went to my friend's house without telling my mom (she called the police and filed me for missing)...you get the idea.
Summer vacations were always spent flying somewhere, whether it be back to China or to some random foreign place such as London, Singapore or LA. I seldom spent vacations where my school friends were.
Four and a half years into the Canadian thing, I was transferred back to Hong Kong so our family could reunite. Two and a half years after that transition, I chose (willingly) to return to Beijing to learn Mandarin. Then in grade 10, I moved to Victoria B.C. and began boarding school. The school was brilliantly Harry Potter-like, although without transfiguration classes. I loved it.
I just moved again, and have started university, and I am loving it. Living in rez is like boarding school all over again, without curfews and no-boys in dorms rules. Montreal is such a diverse, dynamic city--it's North America's link to Europe. There's alway so much to see and so much to do! I just know that McGill is going to be some of the best times of my life. ![]()
